Tell us a few things you will remember from this experience, either with distance
learning or things from other aspects of life. It can be general things or specific
moments.
The thing I will remember the most about this time of sheltering and distance learning is how much I have missed the daily contact with our students. This is not how I ever wanted to teach and nothing can replace direct interactions with children. As a teacher I feel as if I have been robbed of so many things with my class that I wanted to teach and wanted to do with them but cannot because of distance.
What will be some of the first things you’d like to do when the “Stay At Home” order is lifted?
I cannot wait for the day when the Stay at Home order is lifted. It has been so hard not to spend time with my own children and my grandbabies. I have a new granddaughter I have not met yet because of this sheltering. It has been super hard.
What is something your class has been or is working on/ learning?
School simply continued from where we left off. We are continuing to read and write and practice our math skills.
Looking back to when you first found out you would be distance teaching, what have you learned/how have you grown?
I am not a person who loves technology. When that became the method of teaching and connecting with our students there were more than a few anxious moments. I’ve gotten past the fear of being on camera live and simply do it because I know my students need to see and hear me to help them feel comfortable and safe in these crazy times.
Is there anything you'd like to say to your students/families and or the families of St. Philips?
I cannot say enough about the dedication and commitment of our parents. I am so grateful for everything you are doing for your children. These are challenging times, trying to balance so many things and keeping a positive attitude. I am grateful for their support of me as well and everything I am trying to accomplish with my students. It has been amazing! I knew it before Covid 19 but it is even more evident now...I teach at the best school ever, with the most amazing students, and with the most supportive and generous parents in the world! Prayers for all of you!
