What is something your class has been or is working on/learning?
We have been continuing to learn letter of the week and are almost to the end of the alphabet! We just started learning about the Good Samaritan and how we can be kind and helpful to others in Religion Class.
Is there anything you’d like to say to your students/families and/or the families of St. Philip’s?
I am rooting for you! I know taking on distance learning on top of the other new changes can be stressful, but I hope you are finding a good routine. I am praying for you every day and can’t wait until we can all be back in the classroom. Thank you for your dedication and support.
Have your classes had a Zoom or Google Meet-type- meeting? What are your goals for your student's age group during these meetings and do you have any advice? Were there any memorable moments from your online meeting you’d like to share?
Our two Pre-K classes each had their first Zoom meetings last week so they could see each other and Mrs. Ubert one more time before she had her baby. It was so joyful to see the pictures they had drawn of each other and the excitement of seeing their friends after so long. It reinforced how special a classroom community is for our students and how much we all miss it!
What has been the most difficult part of distance learning?
My first day with this class was the first day students had to stay home, so I miss building up our relationships and getting to know them really well like we would have if we were in school together. I miss seeing and interacting with the students in person every day the most!
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a long-term substitute for Mrs. Ubert as she prepares to become a new mom! This is my first teaching job after student teaching at St. Philip’s last Fall and graduating from college in December. I completed half of my degree online, so I understand the stress of figuring out new online programs and setups and the challenge of having to figure everything out on your own. I have great respect for the accommodations you have made to keep your student(s) learning and growing. I’m thankful for this opportunity and have loved seeing pictures and videos of our
students working, playing, and creating!
