ST. PHILIP'S CATHOLIC CHURCH - BEMIDJI, MN

St. Philip's School

St. Philip’s School is a Catholic school serving students from pre-k through eighth grade.  We have been in existence for over eighty years providing a strong religious and academic education to those who enter our doors.

St. Philip’s School Mission statement

St. Philip’s School is one of the important aspects of the Religious Formation Program of St. Philip’s Catholic Parish.  Our mission is to provide a quality Christian and academic education to the students entrusted to our care, enabling them to succeed in our diverse and changing world.

St. Philip’s School Philosophy

St. Philip’s School is an integral part of a program developed to carry out the educational mission of the St. Philip’s Catholic Community.  It serves the families of students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, academically and religiously.
St. Philip’s School is committed to a strong academic program recognizing the value and potential of each child and fostering growth (physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually) through relationships with each other and with God, their Creator.
St. Philip’s School promotes greater awareness of global peace and justice.  This is accomplished by developing in each child a positive attitude toward self, life, and learning, and by providing meaningful experiences of prayer, service, and worship.
Guided by the Holy Spirit, St. Philip’s School strives to be a worshiping community of believers in which the Good News of Jesus Christ is proclaimed and witnessed.

Math Counts -

Do you know what 2 + 3 x 4 equals?  The answer is not 20, but rather 14.  MathCounts is a national program focusing on the area of mathematics.  Here, at St. Philip’s School, we offer MathCounts to all of our 7th and 8th Graders and by invitation only to our 6th Graders.  MathCounts is a before-school extra-curricular activity, with practices being held once a week from late September through January.  St. Philip’s School participates in five different Math Meets over the course of the season, currently involving five other schools as well.  St. Philip’s has done and continues to do quite well, both as a school and as individuals.  Even though we are the smallest school in the Division, we consistently maintain the greatest number of participants, averaging over 40 students per year.  Practices are generally held on Thursday mornings from 7:45 – 8:20, with the various Meets taking place on five various Monday afternoons.  Because of the time commitment that the students put in over the course of the year, we end our season in a special way by taking them either bowling or to a movie or to the Water Park in Thief River Falls as our way of saying “Thank You”.  If you have a love for math or simply want to improve upon your math skills… then MathCounts is for you!!!!.

Fridays with Father

Fridays with the Father is an extra-curriculer activity that is available for all of our sixth, seventh, and eighth graders.  The youth are not the "Church" of tomorrow but the "Church" of today.  F.W.T.F. begins with the beginiing of the new church year - Advent and runs through the remainder of the school year.  The group meets on Friday mornings before school to LEARN  more about their faith in a fun and creative manner, which empowers them to LIVE their faith more fully...and ultimately SHARE to with those around them.  Each morning has a theme that could involve Bible Study, Prayer, Praise & Worship, Meaningful Testimonies, Guest Speakers, etc.  In addition to meeting as a group on Friday mornings F.W.T.F. participants also assist at various school Masses and functions throughtout the year. A highlight for the group and the school as a whole has become our bi-annual Stations of the Cross. On the years when we don't do the Stations of the Cross, we end our year in a very special way by taking a feild trip to Mount St. Benedict, Crookston.
